چکیده

Throughput enhancement is an important issue for processing large volume of sample, especially for microfilters. As a simple and straightforward method, expansion of channel width can handle larger volume without flow velocity increase. The non-uniform velocity distribution by parabolic profile, however, causes different fluidic force to captured cells in microfilters depending on the position of the wide microchannel. We have developed a novel diamond structure-based microfluidic microfilter to form uniform flow velocity profile in the whole area of microfilters and analyzed the lipofuscin accumulation of aged fibroblasts depending on their cell sizes.

Antioxidant and Free Radical Scavenging Potential of Yakuchinone B Derivatives in Reduction of Lipofuscin Formation Using H2O2-Treated Neuroblastoma Cells

Background: The progressive accumulation of misfolded and aggregated proteins in neurons is an accepted mechanism in aging. Overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), referred to as oxidative stress, is currently believed to play a pivotal role in this process. Lipofuscin as a histological index of aging results from cross-links between oxidized proteins and lipids. Therefore, to attenuat...

Can social instability, food deprivation and food inequality accelerate neuronal aging?

Based on both animal and human studies, inequality in food intake and social instability has adverse effects on the health of individuals and the community. However, it is not known whether social instability, food deprivation and food inequality affect neuronal death and premature aging in young animals. To address this question, the effects of these adverse situations, histopathological chang...

Effect of stress due to food deprivation, social inequality and instability on brain

Introduction: Several reports show a relationship between health equity, and health status and longevity of individuals. In this study, effects of food deprivation, inequality and social instability were investigated on the formation of lipofuscin pigment in Balb/C mice by histopathological and biochemical methods. Methods: Thirty-six male mice were divided into 6 groups, then different kind...

Lipofuscin: formation, effects and role of macroautophagy☆

Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the development of the aging process and age dependent diseases. Both are closely connected to disturbances of proteostasis by protein oxidation and an impairment of the proteasomal system. The final consequence is the accumulation of highly cross-linked undegradable aggregates such as lipofuscin. These aggregates of damaged proteins are detrimental to n...

Development of age spots as a result of accumulation of aged cells in aged skin

Age spots are the brown spots that develop in the skin but change in color and shape with time. To understand the mechanism of development of age spots, characteristics of age spots are analyzed with Misrepair mechanism, a mechanism introduced in Misrepair-accumulation aging theory. An age spot is pathologically a group of aggregated basal cells, which contain lipofuscin bodies. Accumulation of...
